Share of Stainless Steel Imports to Russia Keep Growing
Dec 12, 2011Russia actively increases imports of stainless steel which for the first nine month of 2011, if compared to the equal period of 2012, rose 20.7% to more than 276.3 th. tons. An appraisal given by SpetsStal Association, indicates the share of STS imports has grown up to 64.7%.
To remind, in Q1-Q3 2010, the share of imports amounted to 61.8% while in Q1-Q3 2009 - only 55.7%.
The most import-dependent consuming sectors are flat-rolled products with the imports share at 71%, wire - 68.8% and welded tubes - 63.8%. This year the 50% threshold was surpassed by longs which share grew from 36.3% in 2010 up to 52.5% in 2011. Close to the 50% threshold come seamless tubes (49.7%) and ingots/slabs (48,7%).
Thus, the main growth in stainless steel consumption in Russia comes from rising imports.
