Questionnaire: Conditions for Importing Stainless Steel to RussiaAccording to an expert appraisal by SpetsStal Association, stainless steel imports to Russia in May 2011, on April, rose 25.2% to 24554 tons. Imports of stainless steel flats rose 36.1%, longs - 35.2% and wire - 2.5%. Imports of seamless tubes declined 13.1%, welded tubes – 9,6%, while imports of slabs and ingots shrunk almost three times.
Experts think that Russia has a strong potential to greatly increase stainless steel consumption. Ongoing state-run projects in innovative developments in economics, as well as the preparation for the Winter Olympic Games 2014 in Sochi and the World Football Championship 2018, will further stimulate demand for stainless steel.
